“Hello little one. My, you are brave and curious aren’t you.” .
Species: Townsend’s Chipmunk

Early autumn brings young adult animals out to begin foraging in order to survive winter. Juvenile wildlife tend to be more bold and/or curious, making sighting them entertaining and fun. They’re feverishly foraging and seeking out their buried food at the same time, so preoccupied that they don’t seem to care who’s around, except for dogs it seemed. I squatted down to watch this young one do his/her thing, then it stopped to come up to me to check me out, getting to less than a foot away from me. I was amazed. Yes I was holding still, but wow still. And I did talk to him/her as I do to all creatures and things alive. Lol.

Please remember to respect wildlife with how you choose to interact and treat their habitat. Be sure to consider if your actions may habituate them causing harm later on, after you leave their presence.
