Tonight’s dinner with leftovers for lunch ? This Thai inspired cold noodle with beef dish used to be something I made often in my mid 20’s. For some reason or other I haven’t made it since then, so it’s been about 20 years?! I even remember that I had only made this dish while living in my first bachelor/studio rental apartment I lived in on 11th and Pine, and how I often made it for when friends came over for dinner. It’s weird and interesting how some things we love go out of favour and can be forgotten. For some reason last week this memory came up and I felt inspired to try to make it again.
Rice noodles, chopped cilantro, julliened cucumber, crushed garlic, hot red chilli relish, sliced medium rare grilled beef tossed with a mixture of fish sauce, lime juice, and honey

Enjoying the Perseids meteor shower along with a very bright waxing moon, while listening to Ólafur Arnalds. Such a beautiful experience, being one with nature and life.

Have been fortunate to see a few bright ones blazing down while the moon was low still

Meet Spike. He was a best friend to Harry. Having been rescued in his early years by Harry, he ended up with a life of daily adventures as he was able to go to work with his bff. Spike got to go everywhere, lived on a boat, and then a house. In his old age he suffered from dementia of sorts and would pace the house and deck repeatedly, but was fortunate enough to live out his old age at home, safe, and well loved. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣I had the fortune to meet Spike a couple of years ago, then again this year before his passing. His bff knew that Spike’s time left on this side of the rainbow bridge was limited, and so I wanted to do my ‘Loving Memories’ (end-of-life) photoshoot in preparation for the inevitable… which came this July 31st, 2019. According to the vet, it’s believed Spike had a big stroke in the wee hours while he slept beside his favorite human… it was a heartbreaking decision to let Spike go, a poignantly beautiful ending, to pass away while unconscious, peacefully. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Our hearts ache for your bff and for your departure, Spike. We love you and miss you, Spike.⁣

I had heard that every year, one could find a Kildeer momma trying to hatch her eggs in the most inconvenience spot possible out at the Mission Raceways. Last year, I found that she had her nest out on the edge of the greenbelt of the racetracks, where it would be super loud and if any race accidents took place, she and her future hatchlings would be at huge risk. This year, she placed her nest underneath the fence that lay between the racer’s lot and the race track, still high traffic as race cars park by the fence with lots of foot traffic.

I observed her in the morning during race prep, then back in the afternoon after lunch. I saw her stressed and keeping a constant vigil as people had to do their thing in around the space she choose. Some turn workers had placed caution tape at the section of the fence she had her nest, but not everyone was mindful enough to notice… they’d walk by way too close and she’d be out of the nest chirping at the people with her wings flapping to defend her nest. It stressed me out observing the whole thing. I had a message relayed to the race volunteers that maybe they could put something physical surrendering her nest, that made sure people couldn’t accidentally come too close. Eventually someone found a large sign and placed it leaning over onto the fence. That did help to ease her anxiety, as she could finally step away form the nest to take her breaks to feed and such. Maybe it’s the same little momma, or maybe it’s her offspring carrying on the odd legacy of making a nest in the oddest spots, who knows, quirky, but always adorable to see. No one I know has seen the babes, but assuming they did hatch and perhaps were quickly moved elsewhere once they can walk.

Decadent and dreamy. Nothing like taking a little time out to make myself an Affogato on a day where things feel a little drab… then sit down to enjoy it, and let my mind practice ‘dolce far niente’ for a few moments.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I used a nice scoop of a brand of vanilla bean ice cream which is close to my beloved gelato <3, then made a nice and strong pour over coffee with @HandWorks' (my favorite local small batch roasters) El Palto roast. So good

After a move, it’s nice when I can get art and photography onto the walls, it’s ties everything together, and breathes more life into my space.

This print of mine was a landscape oriented image, but since the only space it fits is having it vertical, I rotated it to see if it could work and it does! Thank goodness. The plus sides of abstract images, versatility❤️ Should you be interested in finding prints for your home, feel free to check out my website and store, or inquire about specific prints you’re looking for. Check out link in my bio.

Framed canvas print done through @CanvasPop in 2013, still looks great, been through 2 moves in 6 years. Great quality and service
