If you’re like me, a slow sipper/drinker, you prob end up with undrunk tea or coffee left in the pot often. I usually will pour the leftover tea with tea bag / or coffee into a mason jar, such as this one, sealed then into the fridge it goes.
On a warm afternoon like today, it’s a great to grab it out of the fridge et voila, enjoy a lovely ice drink! This one was from Monday, leftover organic Royal Cream of Earl Grey from Nineteen Eleven Tea, my go-to favorite ❤️ Cold and refreshing!

Happy Friday to you all!

?Qina,Yunnan. Lotus plant farm, stunning to see.
Lotus leaves (for wrapping sticky rice packets), lotus roots and lotus seeds/nuts come from these giant blooming water plants. I had only known about lotus nuts or seeds cooked in Chinese hot desserts, but never seen them raw/fresh, nor knew that eating them raw bettter helped to cool the heat in your body’s chi in the hot summer months. They’re slightly astringent and bitter but have a vegetal nuttiness that made it more attractive to eat. You can buy the seed pod whole and unearth the seeds yourself or buy them pre separated. What a great plant, beautiful flowers and so much is edible or useful

So many moons ago. Turning the clock back 17 years to when I had the opportunity to live in Antigua for a few months. My bf at the time was working for a online casino company and was dispatched out there to set up the servers there. I was recovering from a job burnout and we had just moved in together not even a week before he had leave early.
I remember how surreal it felt to live there and having a chance to just relax and recharge, well mostly. I did end up working some afternoons at the BF’s office doing QA work, helping to review & correct programming code, since I had a knack for it, I had a good eye for details and patterns. Also, I did spend a good chunk of time immersing myself with the few locals I got to see on a weekly basis as they were staff the took care of the long term rentals we lived at, learning about them and their lives there. I learned a tiny bit of pigeon Patois then, loved learning languages.

This photo (good old film), I believe was taken at English Harbour, where private boats or yachts would dock for their supply run. It had a cafe shack that I had adored… A salty dog of an older Englishman ran it, two cafe tables inside and two outside, that was it. We’d often go for a drive after work to catch the sunset there while enjoying a cappuccino, or walk around to check out a newly docked mega yachts

? @dashoffood @onelushlife – So good. Local and organic from the Sooke Country Market today. Little globes of sunshine and goodness. ❤️? I’ve never seen strawberries so naturally glossy and perfect shade of ruby red. So beautiful!

My favorite way to experience a place is through discovering local markets and small eateries, meeting locals along the way

Now we hop on over to China, on a single road that leads in and out of the small village, Qina, a lush valley of rice producers and farmers In Yunnan province. From what I understand, my guess this fella riding with all the tree logs, could likely be taking these to have made into charcoal for cooking use.
We were on our way out of Qina, after a one nights stay with one of the local rice farmers. Unfortunately we had to leave one day early, due to my partner having felt ill from the long travel to get there. It was too bad, but grateful we did have one whole day and a half spent with the family, eating their home cooked meals, and trying to keep up with the corn moonshine toasts going back and forth, using drinking bowls and not glasses ?☺️ I wonder if that’s why my digestion was ok, all that moonshine would have surely killed off anything ? in my guts. Lol

Havana, Cuba | 2003
Switching things up… Thought it might be nice to share some travel photographs before sharing another batch of wildlife photos. ?

My first trip to Cuba was in 2003, and found a part of my heart had remained there. I fell in love with the music many years beforehand and once there, everything about the landscape, unique culture, history and people resonated within my soul.
Under communist regime with trade sanctions, the Cuban people had to live with what was available from within, cars and to be creatively patched up and reimagined with misfit parts and pieces. I loved seeing how they created under the challenge. I’ve always felt that creativity is at its best when we are faced with limitations and challenges (limited resources and poverty), being resourceful and extremely mindful of functionality, then form. You can see many examples of this type of creativity in the older automobiles of Cuba. Reuse, recycle, and upcycle at its best
