Despite being inside a fog or grey days, you can still find beauty. Such is life. Some days are dark days for our souls, but all we need is to look up and outside to seek beauty, it’s there. I was 6-7 months into grieving for the passing of my father and the ending of my role as a caregiver and champion for his well being, feeling a bit lost. A road trip in a foreign land was exactly what I needed to process and grieve… Everyday was new and different, with many challenges and rewards. There were views that brought me to tears, and others that took my breath way and made me smile. Feeling all the emotion was so healing Solo Road Trip adventure in Iceland 2014

When you feel a slight uncomfortableness and fear in something you want to do, it’s definitely a sign, look for the excitement that comes within your heart, no matter how small it seems. The returns you gain for going through with it, committing to it, multiplies that small excitement you first felt, you grow from that experience and move forward another step towards the dreams and goals you have. Go for it, face the fear, and go get what you want out of life. ?: Northwest Iceland, along route 76 near Hofsós if I recall correctly. On The Edge.

Fond memories… Remembering back to my time in Iceland, a solo road trip around this breathtakingly beautiful island. This was the first day the sun made it through, with only low clouds blanketing parts of my journey as thick fog. Taken by a stranger whom I had offered to take their group photo in the Eastern fjords.

The feeling of such freedom and vulnerability is part of what made me fall in love with this land. The vast open spaces, the enormity of the landmarks, it makes you feel very alive and also aware of your mortality, just how open to the elements you are. Hiking on mountains with no trees, exposing you to the strong winds and the higher risk of falling to injury or death. It’s intense at times.

Memories of Snaefellnes Peninsula near Bùðir. Due to the single lane roads, I have to coordinate a stop when I see a window of opportunity with no cars in either direction for a few kilometres, to be safe and responsible. Always hazards signals on too. Many road trippers don’t, quite dangerous, as the average speeds are 95km-110km/hr.

I loved the #DontBeFooled campaign of posters in Iceland. Iceland’s tap water is one of the woleds cleanest, glacial and cold, no one needs to buy bottled water here.
