– switching up with some photos from another travel adventure.

The vegetables and fruits section of the Saturday morning market in Qina, Yunnan.

Yunnan is home to more than half of the ethnic minority groups of China. At this rice farming village’s once-a-week market, various mountain minorities make the trip down into the valley to sell fresh produce and foods they grew or raised. It’s a very multicultural gathering, allowing me a glimpse of the various groups and their traditional clothing, as well the foods they eat. I loved seeing new unfamiliar thing or seeing things I knew in a new context

Early Saturday morning walks in a rainy forest at an off leash dog park are the best. Very few people and dogs. We get to walk in peace ❤️ I did nearly get knocked over by a teenager pup, received a sloppy nosey kiss with muddy paws all over me. True to Fen’s personality, he told that pup off, even if it was 2 times Fen’s size and rambunctious ?

It truly does. To grow is to have truly lived.
As I got older I realize more and more that I had the childhood assumption that ‘adults,’ those older than I, would be by default more mature or wiser. That perception kept getting challenged and shattered; these moments of realization are less jarring nowadays and brings me a new level of awareness and shift in perspective every time. It’s surprising to realize sometimes still, that so many still have yet to grow, even when opportunities are presented right in their faces.

Often I wonder about that sense of someone is an ‘old soul’, a comment/compliment I’ve received since teenage hood, if it’s due in part to that they/I’ve had the courage to grow up in every opportunity that life provided along the way… unafraid to fail to succeed, resiliency our life blood, tapping into our creative minds to be as curious and tenacious as we can be to navigate life and develop ourselves. All the growing up makes us seem like an old soul, no matter our true age.
Muster up the courage on a daily basis, it’s so worth it, it becomes innate, who you really are. <3

Continuing the Yangshuo, Guilin travelogue

We stopped into a local noodle eatery to have traditional Yunnan rice noodles, slightly thicker than spaghetti, with a wonderful light savory sour broth and delicious toppings: fresh vegetables, some slices of pork, pickled beans and bamboo shoot, and deep fried soybeans. For spice, you had your choice of minced marinated chilies or fried chilies. I loved the fried one, so fragrant. This type of noodle soup became one of my go-to favorites. It’s an equivalent to ramen as comfort food ?❤️ The real China, immersed. We had the restaurant all to ourselves, eating our steaming hot soup noodles while basking in the golden sunrise while the owner was making Chinese buns or baozi. A visceral memory for life

Most relaxing weekend in a long time❣️ Gave mys3lr a haircut then napped lots yesterday. Extra long walk with Fen this morning, escaped rain, then went grocery shopping alone so I could take my time ( Fen did well alone for 2.5 hours!). I had lunch while watching hiking videos to gain knowledge of where I’d like to travel to to hike, how I might improve my pack weight and efficiency (minimalist yet comfortable) while living vicariously through some of my favorite YouTubers until global travel is recommended again, drink a homemade mocha and nibble on snacks. Also thinking about swapping out camera gear for beer lighter weight ones.

I’d really like to travel back to Japan and hike there now. Somewhere without predators bigger or more vicious than a fox out in the wild, I’m all in. It’s the risk factor of these that hold me back from solo trips. Being small in size means higher risk of being prey, lol.

If you’re interested in solitary hiking short films with beautifully captured scenery, I recommend watching Kraig Adams on YouTube, watch his more recent works as he’s maturing into a more zen inspired hiker. One of my favorite (maybe BC it was the first I saw) is a hike he did in Iceland, Hornstrandir. It reminded me of my solo trip, the poignant and awestruck beauty I experienced when I was on my own. It reawakened my wanderlust with hiking.
The arduous long hikes with changing terrain and environments reflect how life is like. At the end of life, I’d like to feel tired/well spent, a deep sense of gratitude along with amazement at the distance and the ups and downs I’ve experienced and accomplished.

Yum. Decided to add some ground black sesame into my pancake/waffle batter to test make black sesame waffles. Then drizzled some Dulce de leche on it for a little sweetness. So good! Perfect flavour combo
