Þingvallavegur #36 | Day 2 of 11, Iceland.

If you’re a fan of road tripping on open roads and vast landscapes, Iceland is one amazing country to travel through. Space to think, to absorb nature in all its beauty and harshness. This #solotraveller trip was one of the most spectacular and soul shifting.

Spirited Away

Spirited Away.

The old town of Lijiang in Yunan province, China. Evening, Sept. 2008.

Every evening this ancient own on the mountain lights up house by house when dusk settles in. It’s magical to witness. My travel companion and I were lucky to have this view from our guestroom’s bedroom.

At the top is a temple with its pagoda all a glow.

On The Edge.

On The Edge.

Fond memories… Remembering back to my time in Iceland, a solo road trip around this breathtakingly beautiful island. This was the first day the sun made it through, with only low clouds blanketing parts of my journey as thick fog. Taken by a stranger whom I had offered to take their group photo in the Eastern fjords.

The feeling of such freedom and vulnerability is part of what made me fall in love with this land. The vast open spaces, the enormity of the landmarks, it makes you feel very alive and also aware of your mortality, just how open to the elements you are. Hiking on mountains with no trees, exposing you to the strong winds and the higher risk of falling to injury or death. It’s intense at times.
