Great Article. Describes exactly how my life gets turned upside down when my dad’s siblings come visit from afar once in a blue moon. Not only do I get the ignorance, I also get their fear reaction and harmful actions they try to take on my dad and myself.
I keep them informed as best as I can with weblinks and email updates, yet still, they don’t really care to read and learn. They don’t truly want to understand, instead just act out of fear and denial.
Dealing with the relatives is almost harder than caring for the parent, on the emotional level for the caregiver, because it is hurtful and ill mannered.
Kudos to all caregivers out there who go through the same as I do, and some, though I can’t imagine, worst off than I’ve had to deal with. It really is a double whammy of responsibilities and sometimes hardships.
