📍Qina,Yunnan. Lotus plant farm, stunning to see.
Lotus leaves (for wrapping sticky rice packets), lotus roots and lotus seeds/nuts come from these giant blooming water plants. I had only known about lotus nuts or seeds cooked in Chinese hot desserts, but never seen them raw/fresh, nor knew that eating them raw bettter helped to cool the heat in your body’s chi in the hot summer months. They’re slightly astringent and bitter but have a vegetal nuttiness that made it more attractive to eat. You can buy the seed pod whole and unearth the seeds yourself or buy them pre separated. What a great plant, beautiful flowers and so much is edible or useful.
