Spirited Away

Spirited Away.

The old town of Lijiang in Yunan province, China. Evening, Sept. 2008.

Every evening this ancient own on the mountain lights up house by house when dusk settles in. It’s magical to witness. My travel companion and I were lucky to have this view from our guestroom’s bedroom.

At the top is a temple with its pagoda all a glow.

Hello from Granville Island!

Hello from Granville Island! Can you guess where I sat to do this sketch?

This morning I hopped over to GI to do some grocery shopping and enjoy a London Fog while I did this sketch on my iPad with Paper53. It took me a few minutes to focus, being able to ignore the growing foot traffic going by me, occasionally getting bumped in the head ( woes of being short), as well as the odd curious onlookers. I’m so glad I pushed myself to do this, feeling creatively satisfied 🙂

On The Edge.

On The Edge.

Fond memories… Remembering back to my time in Iceland, a solo road trip around this breathtakingly beautiful island. This was the first day the sun made it through, with only low clouds blanketing parts of my journey as thick fog. Taken by a stranger whom I had offered to take their group photo in the Eastern fjords.

The feeling of such freedom and vulnerability is part of what made me fall in love with this land. The vast open spaces, the enormity of the landmarks, it makes you feel very alive and also aware of your mortality, just how open to the elements you are. Hiking on mountains with no trees, exposing you to the strong winds and the higher risk of falling to injury or death. It’s intense at times.

Warmth.

From a few weekends ago, an outdoor fire pit to warm attendees of the Eagle Fest. It was a chilly day with wind chill to make it even colder. Thank goodness for this pit, the warmth, adding comraderie amongst strangers. The ambers were mesmerizing to look at… Do you get mesmerized by log fires too?

Unexpected good things.

A fond little unexpected hostess gift from a friend a while back, finally getting around to photographing it. I love the simplicity in form and colour and its high functionality of this little hand pottered bowl/vessel. Thank you @sylvia_maxwell xoxo #unexpectedthings #meaningfulgifts
