Found a variety of fungi that I had never seen before ❤️? Does anyone know what the name for these are? They’re so pretty! Like ornate vintage buttons… Loved our forest walk today despite very few mushrooms to be found, too cold I suspect. I had the pleasure of so many dogs that came upto me on their own to say hello, lush greens, Pacific wrens happily singing, and freshest of tree scented air

Lichen & Moss

Ever since I was a kid, I loved lichen and moss, they made the world more magical with their delicate beauty. As an adult I love them them more while having learned of their usefulness for the world;they provide ethereal landscapes and visuals, and knowing that they are nest building materials for Anna’s hummingbirds make them even more special.

Windswept and ocean eroded… We went for a late afternoon walk today and checked out what the latest stormy weather had done at high tide to Blackie Spit park and beach areas. We were amazed to find extreme high tide line evidence and so many of the long time beached logs had shifted or disappeared, floated away presumably. Even the large one I had photographed only a couple of months ago had shifted a few away. The outer edges of the spit that were moss covered have eroded away, leaving faint clay mud shelves, some with the moss carpet draped over. I’m forever in awe of how nature is shaped by the elements. ❤️ The second photo is of an oyster shell that’s as washed up that had the same worm holes normally found in beach wood. I had no idea they could eat through a shell! Pretty cool

Everytime I see a meadow of moss, it draws me in, and I want to lay my head down and rest on it. It looks soft and inviting… and magical

Meet one of our resident Anna’s hummingbirds, Slash. He’s been visiting our feeder for almost one year now, and he’s quite the feisty little fella, and vocal too. These photos were captured last December when I was first getting to know him, I think he had just become an adult as he was more bold; this year he seems more dominant and even more territorial. In photo 2 you get to see his tiny little feet, sort of like T-rex scrawny arms/hands, lol.
Such amazing little creatures

Be forever curious to discover things you wouldn’t normally see/think/do, key to hone your & creative design skills.
I went on one of my “go discover” walks and found this beautiful old beached log with new growth at the end of it. The cracked splitting wood was so strikingly sculptural, had me wishing I could recreate this as a piece of art to be on a wall. I love how the decaying tree textures were emphasized by the lush green fern growth, a perfect collateral beauty example.
And a few other photos to capture “the beauty in small things” ?
If you out this way, to see the many migratory birds and fowls have their pit stop here, see if you can discover this beauty yourself.
By the way, a friendly reminder to folks that this is a bird preserve, and so no dogs, not even on leash, are allowed inside this park. As migratory birds come through here all year round, please respect this space for them, allowing a safe haven. Thank you

Good early morning!

Good early morning! It has been amazing here with the snowfalls, as we rarely get opportunities like this. Both @cruseruser and I are headed up to Dog Mountain this morning so that I can introduce him to one of of my favorite hikes, made easier with snow and snowshoes! Stoked!

Video of Campbell Valley Regional Park last weekend, by the marsh land and river. We even witnessed a tree top break from the weight of the snow, glad we were just far away from it enough to not get hit! It creaked so loud then BOOM! the trunk exploded, crashing down trunk, limbs, and snow bombs.
